Watching from the presbytery towards the back of the church (actually towards its façade), a large fresco of counter façade clearly stands out, depicting the expulsion of the merchants from the temple (Mt. 21, 12-13), by Francesco Coghetti .
The biblical and pictorial theme sounds like a strong warning to indicate that we are in the temple of God, in a place of prayer: where space to the meeting only between God and His people must be given. The beautiful fresco presents Lord Jesus definitely severe, authoritative, in the act of condemning solemnly a wrong way to understand the temple, the house of God among men. An impressive severity, which does not allow for response, that generates surprise and confusion and even fear among those who think they can use God for their own intents and purposes.
